Overall, Tokyo Ghoulcaught me by surprise. I give it a 9.5/10 because of the ending. So in the end it was sad, happy, romantic, action-packed, well-paced, beautifully-designed, and just a straight up perfect anime. ***SPOILER ALERT*** The final fight scene was raw when Kaneki goes up against Jason, one of the main ghouls. The overall anime was amazing,I give props to the manga writers and the anime directors. Basically they randomly would censor some parts which I guess they thought were too graphic yet they show ghouls eating people, so that doesn’t really make sense, and one more bone I had to pick with this anime is the ending, although this is only the first season, the last episode and fight scene was kind of rushed, at least I felt that. If you’re watching this you might want to check if its uncensored or not. There are only a few things I didn’t like with this anime. The way they show the ghouls abilities and kagunes in sync with the beat was sick. I also personally love the opening choice for this anime it was well thought out and the animation was amazing and perfectly synced with the song.

The character development was great too,it wasn’t too wholesome so I didn’t feel like I was watching some kind of rom-com but it was enough that you felt invested into the characters and their struggles. I may have teared a little bit but it was because of my allergies I swear! Not everyone’s stomach is strong enough for Taco Bell. The way they depict feelings though and raw emotion such as when Kaneki is having a mental breakdown when tries all his favorite foods and realizes that he can’t eat them because he is a ghoul and it just hits him like a brick, that his life will never be the same, his frenetic behavior and the anguish and hopelessness displayed is too much. And the concept of how Kaneki becomes a ghoul is original and brilliant. The directors manage to blend action and violence and somehow meld it into an artful tragedy. Make no mistake, this show focuses on action, and it delivers. Kaneki quickly realizes that he needs much more to calm this undying hunger. (Poor Kaneki shouldve stuck to his books but beauty kills…) Rize, however, mysteriously dies and Kaneki wakes up with an unusually colored red eye and this screaming hunger that is not pleased by normal food. But then there is this freak accident and both of them end up in the hospital. Basically Kaneki gets catfished by a beautiful female ghoul named Rize (pronounced ree-zay).

There’s this huge plot twist that beautifully sets up the rest of the story. The story gets off to a pretty fast start. So essentially the story is told from the main character Ken Kaneki, your average bookworm college student turned ghoul’s point of view. In order to survive they must eat human flesh, whether they want to or not. Basically, you’re thrown into a world, where creatures known as ghouls, they look and behave somewhat like humans but that’s where the similarities end. So basically it was circling around Winter Season of 2015 and I just had to check out Tokyo Ghoul because of all the hype surrounding it. I know this came out a long time ago and I’m going to hipster it and say it, yes I watched it when it first came out. Where creepy is cool and so is eating people…
